The Whistledown Hotel
Discover The Whistledown Hotel
A place with a view. A place with a story. A place to return to.
Set on the shores of Carlingford Lough in Warrenpoint, County Down, The Whistledown Hotel has been welcoming guests for more than 30 years.
Family-owned and independently run, ours is a hotel shaped by its surroundings. The Mourne Mountains rise beyond the lough. The Cooley Peninsula stretches across the water. Warrenpoint Promenade and the town's historic Municipal Park are quite literally on our doorstep.
And while the views may be among the first things you notice, we hope it is the warmth of the welcome, the food, the atmosphere and the people that stay with you.
Whether you are escaping for a weekend, discovering Northern Ireland, celebrating something special, planning a wedding or simply stopping somewhere worth staying, The Whistledown offers a distinctly local experience in one of the most beautiful corners of Ireland.
Stay by the shores of Carlingford Lough
There is something special about waking up beside the water.
Our 21 individually styled en-suite bedrooms combine the character of our historic hotel with the comforts expected from a contemporary stay. Choose one of our Deluxe Seaview Rooms and wake to uninterrupted views across Carlingford Lough towards the Mourne Mountains and Cooley Peninsula.
Perfect for romantic breaks, family stays, walking holidays and business trips, The Whistledown Hotel is also ideally located for guests looking for a hotel near Newry, with Newry City just a short drive away.
For those travelling between Belfast and Dublin, Warrenpoint offers a memorable place to pause — and perhaps stay a little longer than planned.
Good food is part of the story
At The Whistledown, food has always been at the heart of the hotel.
From relaxed lunches and evening meals to Sunday dining and special occasions, our restaurants and lounges offer something for every kind of visit.
Finn's Bar & Restaurant brings a lively, contemporary edge to the ground floor, while The Whistledown Bistro, overlooking Carlingford Lough, offers a more relaxed dining experience with a view that is difficult to beat.
For breakfast, coffee or a light bite, Meabh's Lounge provides an elegant space to slow down and catch up. And when the weather plays ball, our seafront beer garden is one of Warrenpoint's favourite places to spend an afternoon or evening.
Our menus celebrate quality Irish produce, seasonal ingredients and the simple pleasure of sitting down to a good meal in good company.
Weddings, celebrations and occasions worth remembering
Some occasions deserve more than a function room.
With beautiful views across Carlingford Lough, elegant event spaces and decades of experience in hospitality, The Whistledown Hotel is one of County Down's established wedding and celebration venues.
Our Oisín Suite provides an impressive setting for larger weddings, private celebrations, conferences and corporate events, while the Lough Cairlinn Suite offers an intimate and beautifully appointed space for smaller gatherings, micro weddings and private dining.
Whatever the occasion, our experienced team is there to make the planning feel easier and the day feel entirely your own.

A new connection to look forward to
The coming years will bring an exciting new chapter for the region with the completion of the Narrow Water Bridge project.
Set to create a new connection across Carlingford Lough, the bridge will further strengthen links between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, opening up new opportunities for visitors to explore both sides of the lough and the wider region.
For guests of The Whistledown Hotel, it is another reason why Warrenpoint is becoming an increasingly exciting place to visit, stay and explore.
